PNB – Practice Pack

Select and schedule your practices to obtain the title PNB - Basic Navigation Pattern.

Internships at the Port Olímpic in Barcelona to obtain the PNB title.

You will be able to govern pleasure boats of up to 8 meters, motorized and sailing, depending on the practices you do.

The PNB internship pack includes:

  • Navigation practices 8 hours.
    You will learn the basics of safe navigation, maneuvering, anchoring and the use of ropes and basic knots.

    You will learn to operate the radio, to carry out distress, emergency and security communications, and much more.

GNP practices

These are the practices that you must complete to obtain the title of Basic Navigation Skipper – PNB.

PNB navigation

Safety and navigation practices. 8 hours long.

The practice sessions are carried out on a voyage basis with a rest stop every 4 hours.

They are face-to-face practices and are carried out on board the school's boats in the Port Olímpic of Barcelona.

You can do them during the week or on the weekend.

Agenda of the PNB navigation practices

The distribution of the total internship time would be divided into nine sections:

  • Weather forecast.
  • Safety and checks before going out to sea.
  • Engine starting and functional checks.
  • Review of safety equipment: vests, lifebuoy, pyrotechnic signals.
  • Rope management: knot making, mooring use.
  • Docking and undock maneuvers.
  • Application of the rules of course and government.
  • Practical aspects of navigation.
  • Security maneuvers.

Radio

Radiocommunications. 4 hours long.

They are face-to-face practices and are carried out with simulators in the school's radio classroom in the Port Olímpic of Barcelona.

You will do them in one session, on weekends or during the week.

The distribution of the total practice time would be divided into two sections:

PNB Complementary Practices

They are advanced navigation practices, to make the most of them we recommend you do them after doing the basic navigation practices.

Sailing

Specialization practices in sailing navigation lasting 16 hours. These practices the PNB title for the government of sailing vessels.

They are face-to-face practices and are carried out aboard the school's sailboats in the Port Olímpic of Barcelona.

You can do them in two 8-hour sessions on weekends or in four 4-hour sessions during the week.

The complementary practices can be done before or after taking the exam or issuing the title. It is up to you

Once you have passed the exam and completed the practices, you will be able to issue your PNB title.

Term

You have a maximum of 24 months to issue the title, counted from the date you pass the exam or complete the practices (whichever you did first).

Documentation

  • Valid ID, residence card or passport.
  • Receipt of payment of the corresponding fee.
  • Nautical medical certificate carried out in Driver Recognition Centers (CRC).
    • It is not necessary if less than 2 years have passed since the date of issuance of the Navigation License.
    • If you carry out the procedure on your own, the medical certificate must be provided in digital format through the application for the issuance of certificates of nautica.gencat.cat
    • If you delegate the issuance process to EscolaPort, you must present the original document to the school.

    Pretty regular practice. There were 11 of us and in the 8 hours I don't think I have done more than 20 minutes. Besides, they were supposedly motor practice and we did it with a sailboat, I think it is quite different to dock and handle one thing and the other. However, the teachers are very kind.
