Method and structure of sailing practices
Sailing practices are carried out every month of the year in the Port Olímpic of Barcelona, aboard one of our sailboats of up to 15 meters in length.
The practice sessions are carried out on a voyage basis with a rest stop every 4 hours.
You can do them during the week on four consecutive days, with 4 hours of practice each day, or on a weekend, with 8 hours of practice each day.
You will do the sailing practices only once, since they are valid for any of the titles, that is, if you have already completed them with the PER or the PY, your CY will be enabled for sailing.
Sailing practice agenda
The objective of the practices is that you identify what are the safety guidelines on board and that you are able to avoid risks during sailing. Special emphasis will be placed on tacking and jibing maneuvers, since during these there is a greater risk of accidents and breakdowns.
During the 16 hours of internship you will learn:
- Courses of the boat depending on the wind and maneuvers.
- Boat elements related to sailing: rigging, rigging, sails... and the most common knots.
- How sails are folded and cared for.
- How to hoist and lower the sails.
- How sail balance influences gait.
- How the boat reacts when you put the rudder to one side or another and its effect on speed reduction.
- Adjust sails depending on the course and the use of the ropes.
- How to take the waves depending on the course and its influence on the progress of the boat.
- How to carry out advanced maneuvers under sail: tackling, pairing, anchoring, leaving the anchorage under sail and safety maneuvers such as collecting man overboard, putting reefs, etc.
Joaquim Rigau Cañardo –
The sailing practices (PER) have been correct in terms of what the School is responsible for: content, material, teaching distribution and the entire teacher. Malauradament the 16 hours are shown to be absolutely insufficient and the regulations of the Generalitat are of incompetence and serious extremes. The Schools have to press in order to increase the hours of training and to achieve the minimum level adequate in order to be competent to govern a vessel under "sail" like that of the practical ones (10.6 m in length). I consider only 16 hours to be a difficult period to control.

Very good organization, the practices carried out with Miquel were excellent and the boat was very comfortable and safe.
Beatriz de Mora –
A very positive experience, since we were lucky to have a windy day and Miquel taught us everything we needed to enjoy the day.
The boat is very good and the organization and covid control too. Thank you so much

The SAILING practices have been very interesting, well organized by the school and with a great and experienced instructor (David Lorente).
Daniel Gamisans –
Vela's practices have surprised me, I suppose that our Captain David Llorente's way of explaining it has made the process easier. I have learned many things and had a great weekend. Congratulations Escola Port
Pablo Chiesa –
The Sailing Practices have been very good for both David and his colleagues, a very friendly environment and in addition to learning we have had a great time. Greetings to everyone and we hope that soon we will go out together
Francisco Javier Navarro –
The organization and the teachers have been excellent for me. And I found the teachers to be most professional and the treatment with the students excellent.

I think that for sailing practices, it would be better to do some theory, headings, position of the sails... at least advance it in digital format so that the students can understand it better. Starting directly on the boat complicates learning
Sheddad –
I loved the sailing practices. The truth is that I didn't think they were so complete. Both monitors are super good. A couple of days there was strong wind and it was ideal for sailing in tougher conditions.

The experience I had this weekend, with my first sailing practice, is 10/10. Starting from the base that, arriving a little late due to the 8M demonstration, they waited for me at the dock and took me on the motorboat to the sailboat. Once there, we performed various maneuvers, with their respective very enriching explanations. The feeling you get when doing the internship with Escola Port is that you truly belong to a yacht club, it is more than just a company, it is the joint enjoyment of an activity, for those of us who love the sea.
