Thirteen 3-hour classes, live streaming video, on Mondays and Thursdays, which you can follow from a computer or smartphone.

The classes are recorded and the next day you will have them available in the virtual classroom. In addition, before and after the course you will be able to resolve your doubts in the vídeo streaming en directo tutorials every 2 weeks.

With the title of Yacht Captain you will be able to govern pleasure boats up to 24 m in length, enjoy ocean sailing and go around the world.

The online teaching material contains the CY study guide with the keys to pass the exam, detailed explanations, sample exams and much more.

In addition, you can include the briefcase with printed didactic material: Study Guide, Nautical Almanac, Colregs, SMCP...

Method and structure of the CY Online course on weekdays

An instructor will guide you in 13 vídeo streaming en directo classes so that you can easily assimilate and understand the agenda. 

How to follow the CY Online course during the week

You can sign up for the CY theoretical course for the dates that suit you, and from today you can access the online course platform to review the syllabus before starting classes.

  • Online courses with classes on Mondays and Thursdays at 7:00 p.m.
  • During the classes your instructor will explain the syllabus step by step.
  • You will be able to solve specific doubts in vídeo streaming en directo tutorials.
  • All classes and tutorials are recorded, so you can see them again as many times as you want.

On the online course platform you will find all the theoretical content, videos of complete classes, thematic videos, exams, online tests and recordings of classes and tutorials. We recommend you prepare each topic in advance and answer all your questions with the instructor. Here are some tips:

The CY syllabus is divided into 4 units.

  1. Navigation theory.
  2. Navigation calculation.
  3. Meteorology.
  4. English.

CY Internships

Once you hire them, you can come to Port Olímpic to do your internship any week of the year, before or after the exam.

CY exam

In 2025, three in-person CY exams will be held in Catalonia, in April, June, and December.

Additional Information

  • The exam is usually done on a weekend, in a public institute.
  • A few days before each call, the provisional list of admitted students is published.
  • You choose the call, but until the list is published you will not know the place, day and time that you must take the exam.
  • The final list of those admitted will be published before 12 noon the day before the test.
  • In the exam, only the theoretical contents are evaluated, the practices are evaluated by the school.
  • If you delegate your registration for the exam to EscolaPort, we will do the procedures, follow-up, incident management and you will receive by email: reminders, solution template, list of admitted students and results.

If you have passed the exam and completed the practices, you will be able to issue your CY title.

Term

You have a maximum of 24 months to issue the title, counted from the date you pass the exam or complete the practices (whichever you did first).

Documentation

  • Valid ID, residence card or passport.
  • Receipt of payment of the corresponding fee.
  • Nautical Medical Certificate carried out in Driver Recognition Centers (CRC).
    • It is not necessary if less than 2 years have passed since the date of issue of a previous title.
    • If you carry out the procedure on your own, the medical certificate must be provided in digital format through the application for the issuance of certificates of nautica.gencat.cat
    • If you delegate the issuance process to EscolaPort, you must present the original document to the school.
